Podium spot for Jessica Bäckman, second weekend in a row
This weekend, Hyundai Motorsport first entered a Swedish track with its Hyundai i30 N TCR car, at Anderstorp and the Swedish championship TCR Scandinavia. Swedish Jessica Bäckman drove the car and she took a well-earned podium spot – second weekend in a row.
TCR Scandinavia is the leading class for Touring car racing and last year it replaced the STCC, as Sweden's most prestigious motorsport championship. The championship includes six events and the second one took place this weekend (June 1st–2nd) at the famous racing track Scandinavian Raceway in Anderstorp. Jessica Bäckman drove her Hyundai i30 N TCR car for the Target Competition team, which was a first for Hyundai in the TCR Scandinavia. It was also the first event in more than 8 months for Jessica back in Sweden, and she entered the 4.025 km long track with great pride – the only one in the Nordic region with a Formula 1 history.
Started first, for the first time in TCR
During the practice races Jessica tasted both tough and pleasant weather and thus managed to rehearse and find the right settings for the qualifications. In Q2 Jessica reached an 8th place, which also became her starting spot for the first race. In the first race, Jessica managed to end up at a 7th place. In race two she started 1st, from pole position for the first time in her TCR career, and ended up at a well-earned 3rd place.
– I am very happy to score my second podium spot this year and to do so back in Sweden (back home!) feels just magical. The weekend was educational, positive and I would like to thank my team, the Target Competition, and Hyundai Motorsport for all the hard work. Now we are looking forward to the second event in the TCR Europe championship at Spa, Belgium, next weekend, Jessica Bäckman says.
Next up is the third event in TCR Europe 2019, held June 8th–9th at Spa, Belgium.
