Kalmar to deliver 19 icon series terminal tractors to Russia's busiest container port operator
The leading container terminal operator in Russia, National Container Company (NCC) has awarded Kalmar Industries, part of Cargotec Corporation, an order for 19 TR618i terminal tractors. Fourteen Kalmar icon series units will be deployed at NCC's First Container Terminal and the remaining five at its Shushary off-dock container terminal, both in St Petersburg. All of the units are scheduled to be delivered by September 2008.
The annual container terminal turnover in Eastern Europe is expected to grow 10 to 20 per cent each year until 2012, and NCC is making major investments in equipment and infrastructure to meet the anticipated demands on its future operations.
For NCC, the TR618i model's efficient operation, easily accessible maintenance points and innovative design played a crucial role in the company's agreement to purchase the units. Kalmar's icon series terminal tractors offer numerous advantages in productivity, cost-efficiency, safety and long lifetime durability.
Kalmar's new cabin features more working space and better visibility as well as plenty of useful devices for operator comfort, helping to ease the stress of fast-paced terminal operations. Serviceability has also been improved thanks to the icon series' CAN-BUS control system which makes service procedures faster, safer and simpler with its state-of-the-art diagnostic and maintenance planning capabilities. The TR618i model also boasts a robust frame and a new, stronger Dana RTE15822 transmission enabling softer and smoother gear changes with better traction - further reassuring NCC that the enhanced durability of the icon series terminal tractor will stand up to Russia's harshest winter conditions.
NCC operates numerous container terminals in Russia and CIS countries, employing various Kalmar equipment - including straddle carriers, reachstackers and terminal tractors - and handling an aggregated throughput in 2007 of more than 1.5 million TEU. The company is currently engaged in the construction of Ust-Luga Container Terminal near St Petersburg. The new facility will have an expected capacity of 3 million TEU making it the largest in Russia and the Baltic region.
An icon for 21st century container handling
Kalmar's new generation icon series terminal tractor, launched to the market almost one year ago, demonstrates a new era in trailing handling design, innovation and ergonomics. Praised for its excellent manoeuvrability and pulling power thanks to the latest EU-stage engines providing great torque and pulling capacity for heavy ramp driving, the TR618i terminal tractor from Kalmar represents the ultimate in enhanced productivity, cost efficiency and durability.
National Container Company (NCC) is the leading container terminal operator in Russia and CIS. The company was founded in 2002. The Group of companies First Quantum and the Transport Group FESCO own NCC on parity basis. NCC operates First Container Terminal (FCT, St. Petersburg), Container Terminal NUTEP (Novorossiysk) and Container Terminal Ukrtranscontainer (UTC, Illichivsk, Ukraine) providing customers with container handling services that combine world-class standard terminal operations with state-of-the-art technology.
In April, 2007, NCC started the construction of Ust-Luga Container Terminal (ULCT, Leningrad region) which is due to become the largest one in Russia and the Baltic region with the annual throughput capacity of 3 million TEU. NCC also develops off-dock Logistics Terminal in Shushary (St. Petersburg) with total capacity of 200,000 TEU per year. The aggregated throughput of NCC's terminals in 2007 amounted to 1,556,444 TEU.
