Klimatkollen embarks on collaboration with AI scientists at University of Zurich

Klimatkollen embarks on a collaboration with a research group from the Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Finance programme at the University of Zurich. The partnership aims to create an open database with facts about European companies' emissions and climate change.

– We are extremely proud to collaborate with the University of Zurich. Their work at the intersection of AI and sustainability is leading in Europe. Together we will add thousands of European companies to our open database. To slow down the climate crisis, radical transparency about carbon emissions is critical, says Frida Berry Eklund, co-founder of Klimatkollen.

Klimatkollen also collaborates with researchers at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, the European research network Climate NLP, the Nordic research network Climate AI Nordics, as well as the Swedish climate research network, Researcher's Desk.

– The collaboration with Klimatkollen is important to strengthen the connection between AI research and practical applications that can reduce emissions and increase transparency, says Markus Leippold, Professor at University of Zurich, who is leading the Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Finance Initiative.

Om Klimatkollen

Klimatkollen is a nonprofit citizens platform that presents climate data about municipalities and companies. The aim is to contribute to more engaged citizens, a more fact-based climate debate and emission reductions in line with the Paris Agreement. During 2024–2025, Klimatkollen receives financial support from Google.org as one of two Swedish recipients of the Google.org Impact Challenge: Tech for Social Good.

About the Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Finance programme at the University of Zurich

ClimateBert, ChatClimate, ChatReport, and AskNature are four NLP tools born from this research unit. ClimateBert is among the first NLP’s to allow for an assessment of an extensive array of corporate sustainability communications. Similarly, ChatClimate is an interface that helps users understand the latest climate change report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). ChatReport and AskNature allow assessment of corporate sustainability reports according to the guidelines of the Task Force for Climate Related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) and Task Force for Nature Related Financial Disclosure (TNFD). These platforms empower anyone to engage and evaluate data and information, fostering accountability and propelling transparency when pursuing sustainability from a financial standpoint.
