Pressmeddelande —
Klimatkollen teams up with global coalition, Climate TRACE, to increase climate data on Wikipedia
– Partnering with Climate TRACE is a dream come true. Today we are uploading corporate emissions data to Swedish Wikipedia, and with support from Climate TRACE and its emissions data, we will now scale our publishing solution beyond Sweden. Our shared mission is clear: greater transparency on who emits how much greenhouse gases. Without it, there can be no real accountability for the Paris Agreement, says Frida Berry Eklund, Co-founder of Klimatkollen.
Klimatkollen and Climate TRACE, a global non-profit coalition co-founded by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and a group of AI specialists, data scientists, researchers, and nongovernmental organizations, will collaborate to expand the availability of greenhouse gas emissions data from both public and private actors on the largest Wikipedia language editions.
– Working with Klimatkollen to share emissions data and make that information even more accessible via free and open platforms is very strongly aligned with Climate TRACE’s mission – making climate action faster and easier for all. Better data means better decisions that reduce emissions, said Christy Lewis, product director at Climate TRACE.
In 2025, Klimatkollen began publishing corporate greenhouse gas data on the companies’ own Wikipedia pages to increase transparency about emissions. Today, published data exist for around 400 large companies. In the same way that other key facts about companies, such as financial data, information on headquarters and the number of employees, a new factbox structure has now been created to also hold emissions data.
– This is exactly how Wikipedia should be used to make more information accessible to a broad public. We are proud that this initiative started in Sweden and will help engage more people in our community to assist in the work, says Signe Krantz from Wikimedia Sverige.
With its millions of articles, Wikipedia is a widely used source for both human readers and AI systems. As AI-powered search tools grow rapidly, the availability of high-quality, well-sourced climate data on Wikipedia can make this information more accessible and easier to surface for users.
