Don't be surprised if Chatbots join your Business soon...

Just 2 quarters pass, and a 30% increase in chatbots usage emerges out of thin air…

But, is this shift in chatbot technology really as shocking as it may seem on paper? Or, has the acceptance, and utilization, of chatbot technology, actually, been a long time in the making?

As reported recently by Supply Chain Dive, from a poll taken by PYMNTS.com, in Q4 of 2016 about 79% of businesses had no engagement with chatbots. However, by Q2 2017, 51% of businesses had begun to embrace the technology.

Chatbots offer interesting opportunities for autonomous consumer interactions and transactions, which could potentially cut back on multiple daily duties of supply chain management. Chatbot technology is one that has been around for a long time, and its capabilities are still rather simplistic, but the development of more complex-artificially intelligent bots is under way.

“Consumer-interactive chatbots are being developed in order to handle growing complexities within the supply chain and other industries like banking and accounting” (Supply Chain Dive 2017).

Multiple of major-retailers have already begun experimentation with chatbot technology to see how it could enhance their workflow, optimize consumer experience and ease bottom-line tasks. eBay has released a personalized shopping assistant named ShopBot, Facebook has utilized chatbots via their Messenger function and Siri has been charming us with her robotic wits ever since Apple released her in 2011.

Quick and scaling developments in technology such as chatbots have reshaped markets, disrupted entire business sectors and transformed consumer experiences forever.

As supply chain management tools continue to develop and the need for more interactive technology arises, chatbots will most likely be there to answer the call. SAP Ariba revealed, in March 2017, their plans for a AI-powered chatbot called Procurement. This bot will process intermediary tasks and streamline productivity of supply chain related requests and errands. You can bet on seeing multiple large actors in the SCM Tech sector to, soon, follow in SAP's path.

Chatbot technology is carving a hole in the hearts of many businesses. It’s just a matter of time before your company joins the pack.
