Emily Roysdon new professor at Konstfack

Emily Roysdon is Professor of Fine Art at Konstfack from August 1, 2013.

Hi Emily, how was your first day at Konstfack?
We were in a rigorous conversation about designing the new masters program, so it was excellent to jump right in and be part of creating the form and content of the department.

In short, what have you worked with before Konstfack?
I've been an independent artist for 12 years working with performance, video, text, and photography. I've curated a few shows, writing essays, made a feminist genderqueer independent art journal in a collective for 6 years in NYC, written lyrics for bands, made costumes for choreographers, and a lot of collaborative and interdisciplinary work.

What do you think you will be bringing to Konstfack?
I moved to NYC after the ravages of the AIDS epidemic and the dynamic activist work that responded to that crisis. I learned from those artists, and from the counter cultures of queer NY and DIY scenes. I learned from the generation of feminists that came before me and I've studied in experimental and interdisciplinary schools in the US.

What do you think Konstfack will be giving you?
I took this job because I was ready to commit to a community outside the practice I've been developing these many years. Being at Konstfack is the best way to engage a generation of artists and thinkers. As a professor I learn as much as I teach.
