Landskrona Foto Festival presents its tenth edition – welcome to our press event on September 3rd
The war in Ukraine, migration across Europe’s borders, nationalism, and the climate crisis.
As Landskrona Foto Festival presents its tenth edition, it does so with a theme at the very heart of our contemporary era: Displacement.
From September 4th to the 20th, the festival gathers internationally acclaimed photographers and artists across 17 exhibitions throughout the city of Landskrona in the south of Sweden. These exhibitions explore how people, communities, and our relationship with nature are transformed by war, migration, political borders, and climate change.
Media representatives are cordially invited to the press event and preview on September 3 at 10:00 AM.

A theme straight from the headlines
This year’s theme has gained particular urgency during the past summer. In Felipe Romero Beltrán’s Dialect, we meet young migrants who made their way from Morocco to Spain and now live in legal limbo—a reality that has once again come into focus following this summer's widely reported migration events at the border between Morocco and the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
The war in Ukraine is present in Open Group’s Repeat After Me, where displaced people recreate the sounds of the weapons they have been forced to learn to recognize, and in Alexander Chekmenev’s Faces of War, featuring portraits of everyday Ukrainians in the midst of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
American photographer and former civil rights attorney Debi Cornwall examines how nationalism and military power are staged, while Zed Nelson, Photographer of the Year at the Sony World Photography Awards 2025, turns his lens toward humanity's increasingly artificial relationship with nature.
Pieter Hugo to Landskrona
On the festival's opening day, September 4, the internationally acclaimed South African photographer Pieter Hugo will also visit Landskrona.
In the talk Between Documentary and Desire: Photojournalism, Art and Fashion, he will discuss the intersection of documentary photography, art, and fashion.

About Landskrona Foto Festival
Landskrona Foto Festival takes place from September 4 to 20, 2026, and presents its tenth edition this year. The festival comprises 17 exhibitions, seven of which are shown indoors and ten outdoors in parks, on streets, and in public squares. The program also features artist talks, a photobook market, and guided tours.

Six Highlights from the Festival Program
1. Debi Cornwall (USA) – Necessary Fictions & Model Citizens
Location: Tyghuset, Kasernplan, Landskrona
Former civil rights attorney Debi Cornwall examines how power, nationalism, and ideas of "the enemy" are staged. In her images, we meet Afghan and Iraqi refugees hired as role-players in realistic US military exercises—where war is recreated on American soil.
2. Felipe Romero Beltrán (Colombia) – Dialect
Location: Landskrona Castle, the Citadel
In Dialect, Felipe Romero Beltrán follows a group of young migrants from Morocco who have made their way to Spain and live awaiting a decision on their legal status. Through photography and staged situations, he depicts a state of limbo between two worlds—characterized by waiting, uncertainty, and the longing for a new life. A project that gains particular relevance in light of this summer’s highly publicized migration events between Morocco and Spain.
3. Open Group (Ukraine) – Repeat After Me
Location:Exercishallen, Kasernplan, Landskrona
The Ukrainian artist collective Open Group, acclaimed at the Venice Biennale 2024, invites displaced people to recreate the sounds of the weapons they have been forced to learn to recognize. In this powerful video installation, the audience is invited to a form of karaoke where the sounds of war replace the singing.
4. Zed Nelson (UK) – The Anthropocene Illusion
Location: Outdoor exhibition at Kasernplan
Zed Nelson, named Photographer of the Year at the Sony World Photography Awards 2025, examines humanity's increasingly detached relationship with nature in a six-year global project. Zoos, artificial beaches, and indoor ski slopes serve as examples of how we recreate the very nature we are simultaneously displacing.
5. Agnès Geoffray in collaboration with Vanessa Desclaux (France) – They Stray, They Persist, They Thunder
Location: Landskrona Citadel
Through photography, poetry, and historical archives, Agnès Geoffray, in collaboration with curator Vanessa Desclaux, portrays young women's resistance to institutional violence. At the Landskrona Citadel, the works take on a particular resonance due to the site's history as a forced labor institution for girls and women until 1940. French and Swedish archival narratives meet in an exhibition about control, escape, and resistance.
6. Alexander Chekmenev (Ukraine) – Faces of War 2022–23
Location: Outdoor exhibition at Artillerigatan/Vengatan
Ukrainian photojournalist Alexander Chekmenev turns his camera toward the people behind the headlines of war. Fourteen portraits of farmers, teachers, doctors, and others depict everyday life during Russia's full-scale invasion—testifying to both vulnerability and resilience. Chekmenev has documented Ukraine through times of peace, revolution, and war, and is also the photographer behind Time Magazine's acclaimed portrait of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
