NEW ALBUM ‘VALENTINE’ OUT JANUARY 16 VIA THIRTY TIGERS

Courtney Marie Andrews has shared new single “Little Picture of a Butterfly,” the final advance track from her forthcoming album Valentine, out January 16, 2026 via Thirty Tigers. Expansive and fervent, “Little Picture of a Butterfly” forges defiance from the helplessness of what can’t be controlled. “After being stood up, this song fell out of me in a fit of heartbreak,” says Andrews. “Musically, I wanted the beginning of the song to sound like the whimsical, dreamy, and helplessly meek feeling of limerence, and feeling like you need a response in order to be kicked into action. Once it’s stated that limerence can create illusions of fantasy or ‘make believe,’ we’re kicked into action, kicked into waking up, kicked into our power. The band kicks in, and I’m empowered.”Featuring Brian Wilson-esque harmonies and Andrews making her return to the flute for the first time since the fifth grade, “Little Picture of a Butterfly” crescendos to a sky-high final act, unfolding into a moment of triumph that sees Andrews standing tall amid what can’t be steered.

Written during a period of profound endings and new beginnings, Valentine finds the Nashville-based, Phoenix-born musician transforming limerence into "luminous" (New York Times) strength, and harnessing her signature sound and lyricism that “doesn't just tell us truths; but makes us feel them poignantly, and right on time” (NPR Music). Recorded to tape at Valentine Recording Studios in Los Angeles, it is Andrew’s most sonically explorative record yet, radiating with resilience as she traces the terrain between ache and renewal. Valentine is “a record in pursuit of love,” says Andrews. “But love, it turns out, is a lot more than I gave it credit for...I was in one of the darkest periods of my life, and songs were the only way I could reckon with it.”

Earlier this year, Andrews previewed the ten-song collection with "Cons and Clowns" - called “a safety blanket of a single...with the most perfect timing" (Stereogum) - and “Keeper,” a worn-hearted plea for uncertain love.

The new music arrives on the heels of Courtney's second collection of poetry via Simon & Schuster this summer, Love Is a Dog That Bites When It's Scared - furthering her work as an accomplished multidisciplinary artist across three different mediums: from music, poetry and her work as a visual artist. Her most recent studio projects were 2022’s Loose Future, which Pitchfork described as “a shimmering piece of self-acceptance,” and 2020’s Old Flowers which earned her a GRAMMY nomination for Best Americana Album.
