A new chapter for a well-established wind portfolio – SEB Nordic Energy through Locus Energy acquires Wallenstam’s wind assets
Following significant new capital commitments to SEB Nordic Energy earlier this year, the fund continues to invest in Nordic renewable energy infrastructure. Through Locus Energy, the fund has acquired a 112 MW and 300 GWh Swedish wind portfolio from Wallenstam, one of Sweden's leading real estate companies and a pioneer in renewable energy.
The acquisition marks the next chapter for a portfolio that has been professionally operated and continuously developed under the long-term ownership of Wallenstam. The wind farms have a strong production history and have since 2013 generated enough renewable electricity to match the company's operational energy consumption.
"This acquisition aligns well with SEB Nordic Energy’s strategy of investing in established renewable energy assets with a strong operational performance and clear development potential. Together with Locus Energy, we look forward to further developing the portfolio," says Richard Gavel, Head of Real Estate & Infrastructure Funds, SEB Asset Management.
For Locus Energy, the transaction represents both an attractive opportunity to continue the build-up of a diversified renewable energy portfolio in Sweden as well as a responsibility to continue building on a strong legacy.
"This portfolio reflects years of commitment, long-term thinking and genuine belief in the role renewable energy can play in society. Wallenstam was among those who saw the potential of wind power early and acted on it. We are proud to take over that responsibility and continue developing a portfolio that has already made an important contribution to Sweden's energy transition," says Niklas Sörensen, CEO and Managing Partner of Locus Energy.
Alongside the continued development and modernisation of the portfolio, Wallenstam and Locus Energy with partners, are embarking on a joint development project with the ambition of creating a new generation of electricity pricing agreements for the real estate sector.
"Together with Locus Energy, we are also launching a joint development project aimed at creating a dynamic tool for structuring electricity pricing agreements for the real estate sector, leveraging modern technology. The ambition is to develop a solution that can also serve real estate companies with consumption profiles that are more diverse and variable than those traditionally covered by this type of agreement." says Hans Wallenstam, CEO of Wallenstam.
