Shane Schneck & Angelo da Silveira interpret Svensson Textiles during Stockholm Design Week 2025
Ludvig Svensson Textiles inaugurates Stockholm Design Week 2025 with the exhibition Malleables - created by designer Shane Schneck, in collaboration with fashion designer and creative entrepreneur Angelo Da Silveira.
Family-owned Ludvig Svensson was founded in Kinna in 1887 and is one of the few companies in Scandinavia that continues to manufacture its textiles in its own factories. Over the past 138 years, the focus has mainly been on creating textiles of the highest quality through sustainable materials and craftsmanship - which seems to be the key to success. A little over a year ago, a first external design collaboration was initiated with the design duo TAF, who, among other things, created the company's new showroom in Stockholm. Today, the exhibition Malleables opens here, where designer Shane Schneck has explored the importance of textiles in furniture design.
"The work began by examining how furniture foam can be shaped and folded into complex structures. Instead of following traditional processes, we have experimented with simple means to let the materials themselves define the objects. The result is furniture that is joined together through its own structure, and instead of many layers of different materials, the objects consist only of foam and textile that rests on a simple plywood frame," says Shane Schneck, designer.
Reducing and simplifying an otherwise complex manufacturing process permeates the concept. Instead of relocating production to a furniture factory, Schneck and his team have built the furniture by hand in their design studio. With simple means, they have experimented their way forward, in a process that is both technically exploratory and characterized by the DIY culture's direct approach.
The exhibition also contains a parallel interpretation of the concept from a fashion perspective where fashion designer Angelo da Silveira has made his interpretation of Ludvig Svensson and the exhibition Malleables. The result was a vest inspired by the functionality and simplicity that often characterizes traditional workwear.
"Through Malleables, we are now inaugurating the part of our showroom that we want to open up for various collaborations with creators in different disciplines, partly to offer a platform in central Stockholm and partly to challenge ourselves to continued development," says Anna Krantz, Marketing Manager at Ludvig Svensson.
In connection with Stockholm Design Week 2026, the collaboration with TAF will be presented when a new collection of textiles will be aunched.
