"I am now the same age as my old man, actor Allan Edwall, was when he first opened his theatre at Brunnsgatan 4. Many of these photographs are taken there, for various productions he did. When he passed in 1997, I gathered them and put together an exhibition in his hometown of Hissmofors the following year. It turned out nice. The municipality of Krokom bought the entire exhibition and it has since lived on – finding its way through hospitals, retirement homes and many other places unknown to me. Just like Allan himself did in his life and creativity. Now, almost 25 years after his passing, I have both repressed and processed the grief – and the photographs have long been hiding in my archives."- Mattias Edwall september 2020

Mattias Edwall, born 1958, is a still photography and film photographer. As the son of actor Allan Edwall and author Britt Edwall, he came into contact with the world of film early on in life. He started his career as a fashion photographer in New York and one of his early jobs was as an assistant to Annie Leibovitz and Patrick Demarchelier. Here he also gained the opportunity to explore his own personal form of expression. Edwall returned to Sweden in 1986, producing a wealth of advertising films and music videos throughout the following decade.

A warm welcome to the photo exhibition ALLAN 86-96 at Lydmar Hotel in collaboration with Robert Eliasson on Thursday 10th of September! Due to Covid-19 you must book a time slot to attend the exhibition and most importantly, if you are feeling ill - stay at home and visit the exhibition some other day!

The time slot left is for one hour starting at 19:00 and must be confirmed through osa@lydmar.com.
