Smart Services - Internet of Things

To the Swedish Embassy in Haag (NL) over 40 executives were invited from various industries. Some were a bit skeptic, some were hesitating but at the end of the day everybody was convinced that the Era of Smart Services is starting to happen.

50 billion devices - The Internet of Things

Ericsson presented their holistic view on how 50 billion devices will be connected in 2020. Is it just a figure? Is it science fiction? No it is happening at the moment and it is not important if it will be 50 billion, 100 billion or 20 billion. Our society requires new services which are based primarily on technology.

Solar panel monitoring

One example of a successful smart service is monitoring of solar panels (PV installations). People are investing in a Solar System, they want to have a return on their investment but they do not know how their system is performing. Pierre Gerrissen, CEO of SolarCare, explained how he has developed a service concept which enables consumers to monitor their PV systems and provides PV suppliers a tool to give better support to their customers. A great example of a win win situation.

Human perspective

"We'd like to talk about something that is seldom mentioned in our industry. Humans.

Without a human perspective on M2M technology we will never experience the full potential of M2M. When the infrastructure is in place there are no boundaries of how it can be utilized. Both at home and at work. We now talk about M2H, machines servicing human and not at least machines servicing society in large, said Baard Eilertsen, CEO of Maingate when he presented Maingate, the first Service Operator.
