Bättre kvalitet och högre produktivitet är drivkrafter för forskningen inom skoglig molekylär genetik. Ronald R Sederoff tilldelas Marcus Wallenbergpriset 2017 för sina banbrytande metoder för att kartlägga gener i olika typer av barrträd. Han har också utvecklat växtförädlingen inom skogsbruket.
