NEC and GS Yuasa reach agreement on supplying lithium-ion battery components

Tokyo & London, June 6, 2012 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) and GS Yuasa Corporation (GS Yuasa; TSE: 6674) announced today the conclusion of an agreement to supply components for the lithium-ion battery field.

Initially, the companies aim to determine the conditions under which NEC will provide its lithium-ion battery electrodes to GS Yuasa by the end of October 2012. The companies then seek to expand their cooperation in the energy storage field through areas such as lithium-ion batteries for energy storage systems.

Looking forward, as worldwide demand for large scale lithium-ion batteries continues to grow, both companies will capitalise on their experience in the mass production of lithium-ion batteries for automobiles in order to provide environmentally friendly products and technologies with superior competitive strength.
