DRG announces first deal with BritBox

DRG is delighted to announce an initial deal with BritBox, covering a package of British drama and comedy titles, the first of which has just been made available to subscribers.

The new streaming service, established by BBC and ITV, has acquired three series of the award-winning comedy Detectorists (19 x 30), available to view now. This delightful and gentle series following metal detectorists Mackenzie Crook (Britannia) and Toby Jones (The Hunger Games) in their search for lost treasure in the English countryside. Later this week, on 23rd January, BritBox will premiere Synchronicity Films’ The Cry (4 x 60), starring Jenna Coleman (Victoria) and Ewen Leslie (Safe Harbour).

The other titles in the DRG package, which will be made available to BritBox subscribers early in 2020, are all three series of Tracey Ullman’s Show (19 x 30)and Babylon (1 x 90 & 6 x 60). Tracey Ullman’s Show is a satirical sketch show that sees the award-winning and multi-talented Tracey Ullman shape-shift into a wide range of public figures – from Dame Judi Dench and Melania Trump to Jerry Hall and Angela Merkle – as well as some wonderfully offbeat original characters. Babylon is a comedy-drama starring James Nesbitt (Cold Feet) and Brit Marling (The OA). Directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), it was created by Boyle, along with Robert Jones (The Usual Suspects), Sam Bain (Peep Show) and 2019 Emmy award-winner Jesse Armstrong (Succession).

Elin Thomas, DRG’s EVP of sales was responsible for the deal with BritBox. She comments: “DRG has a terrific catalogue of great British content, created by some of the UK’s premier producers, so naturally we are enthusiastic supporters of BritBox and thrilled to have some of our titles join the line-up so soon after launch.

“BritBox is also a wonderful platform to showcase the talented actors, writers and directors in this country and in some cases, such as Babylon writer and co-creator Jesse Armstrong, to remind us of the incredible work they had already produced long before Hollywood came calling.”
