NIRA Dynamics and HERE Technologies enters into cooperation regarding road surface information and road safety
NIRA Dynamics and HERE Technologies have entered into a cooperation where NIRA will make road surface data available on the Open Location Platform powered by HERE.
The Netherlands is in focus, where NIRA software algorithms are being installed in over 20 000 vehicles during 2019. The vehicles will be collecting road information such as road friction, and road roughness initially, adding pothole and roadbump information later. The data will be made available on the HERE OLP.
The HERE OLP is a collaborative location platform and home to global-scale location data, tools and services. It also integrates the world’s first global location data exchange, HERE OLP Marketplace. enabling data providers to unlock value from their data by making it available to others.

OEMs, software application providers and road maintenance companies has the opportunity to set a new standard in terms of building apps based on live data. The coverage will be greater than ever seen before and is the first time an entire country’s roads will be monitored in detail, allowing true safety and increased performance.

The first applications will be available in the road maintenance sector, where the status of the road networks can be monitored and maintained in a much better way. The first automotive applications will be ADAS related, improving the performance in winter conditions. Work is ongoing rolling out the services in more countries. Europe will be first in 2020, followed by the US in 2021.
