Swedish Pjama launches next generation bedwetting treatment

1 of 10 7-year old children suffer from bedwetting. It is one of the most common health problems among children. MedTech company Pjama is now launching a treatment system that is supposed to cure the majority of its users within 3 months – without any need for medication or hospital visits.

Malmö-based Pjama has during the last 10 years been creating innovative solutions for people suffering from bedwetting. Their Pjama pants and shorts are being used in over 70 countries. The patented design-garments take the anxiety and stress out of any night away from home. And there is no need to change the bedlinen as the Pjama keeps the user confident and the bed dry.

- Now we can offer the world a unique solution that combines protection with treatment, says Pjama CEO Johan Bergenholtz .

Pjama has now integrated built-in wet-sensors into their pants and shorts. When using Pjama for a bedwetting treatment, a transmitter placed inside the Pjama is activated when the inner lining gets wet. That triggers an external alarm unit placed elsewhere in the room.

The alarm wakes the child up when there is an accident, and eventually the child will be triggered to wake up by themselves.

- If a child urinates while asleep, there may be some easy-to-find problems like diabetes, but most often bedwetting is not caused by any underlying medical conditions. An underdeveloped nerve-signal that is meant to wake a person up when it is time to pee can be triggered and self-learned, Johan explains.

You can also connect the transmitter to an App on your smartphone, allowing the users and their parents to be notified when the alarm goes off. In the App you can also register the child’s sleeping habits, the success rate of the treatment and much more.

- Global metadata says that the majority of bedwetting children going through an alarm treatment get cured within 3 months. If the family is engaged, the success rate can be up to 80% - and no medication or medical examinations are needed! That is one of the main purposes with our new system – to engage and motivate, Johan says.
