Swedish scarf brand promises to help survivors of sex-trafficking.

Kennedy Town, Hong Kong, Nov 6, 2018 Bahini (‘little sister’), a Swedish social enterprise, will celebrate their first line of sustainable scarves at The Hive Studio in Hong Kong on November 8, 7-9 PM. The intimate after-work event will be the official start of a brand that believe in sustainability and elegance, but the ultimate goal for the company, is to support and empower girls in need.

On Nov 8th, Bahini scarves will be celebrated with live music, drinks and snacks, and the founder Miyabi Holm will talk to press and friends about the work Bahini does to help sexually exploited girls in Nepal. Guests at the event can buy the first Fair-Trade scarves made by the hands of marginalized Nepalese women and sex-trafficking survivors. For every scarf sold, Bahini support at-risk girls by donating money towards educational scholarships ranging from pre-school to college. Our hope is for every girl to gain strength through education, and find the power to shape their individual futures.

Bahini’s mission is to empower girls with a future in freedom and to raise awareness about sex-trafficking.

The Bahini journey started when founder Miyabi volunteered in Nepal to support NGOs in their work for human rights. Instantly she was welcomed as a sister among the Nepali women, and learnt that the younger girls were called bahini, which means ‘little sister’. Apart from the loving sisterhood she also witnessed the prominent gender inequalities in the Nepalese society.

“I had never before experienced such a vibrant culture and loving people. At the same time it was incredibly difficult to observe another side of their society; the harsh, sometimes violent climate for women and girls. Having been born and raised in Sweden, one of the most gender-equal societies in the world, made the experience impossible to shake.” -Miyabi Holm
