ENG: Newly launched travel service puts Stockholm firmly on the sustainable travel map

On April 24, the new UbiGo travel service was launched in Stockholm, making the city a little greener and everyday life for the people of Stockholm much easier.

UbiGo offers city dwellers a simpler and more climate-smart way of travelling by public transport, carpool and hire car, taxi and bike – all using just one app.

“The launch of the new UbiGo travel service is for many reasons a timely complement to daily life for lots of people. Travel will become more efficient, smarter and more individualised, ultimately making it easier for people in the Stockholm region who are constantly juggling to deal with the ins and outs of daily living,” said Kristoffer Tamsons, Regional Traffic Commissioner and Chairman of SL, the City of Stockholm public transport authority.

The introduction of the new service is taking place in close partnership with the City of Stockholm, SL, Move About, Hertz and Cabonline, and the first to test it are the inhabitants in the districts of Hammarby Sjöstad, Finnboda and Minneberg.

"UbiGo means that fewer people in Stockholm need to own cars, which will ease congestion on the streets and increase travel by public transport. Not to mention less need for parking spaces,” said Hans Arby, chief executive of UbiGo.

Daniel Helldén, City of Stockholm Traffic Commissioner, continued: “The service offers a flexible and convenient way of travelling based on your personal requirements. It will enhance mobility for more people without the need to own a car, not only benefitting the individual, but also society and the environment.”

After a sneak start during the winter, UbiGo was officially launched in Hammarby Sjöstad on April 24 in collaboration with partners, customers and other stakeholders.

"It's great that so many people are curious about the service and that so many of our initial customers were eager to attend the launch. They are the ones who wanted to be in there first to try something entirely new," said Hans Arby.

UbiGo is a pioneer in what is known as Mobility as a Service, which has become a hot trend in transport across the globe. The company is the first in Sweden to offer an all-inclusive system for everyday travel.

“This travel service has made day-to-day life more efficient and flexible. Not to mention avoiding all the hassle of ownership, maintenance, and the inevitable mound of paperwork,” said Cecilia Larm from Finnboda, who is one of those who have been using the service for a few months.

Following the launch in Hammarby Sjöstad, Finnboda and Minneberg, UbiGo plans to extend the service to other districts. UbiGo is part of the EU ‘Eccentric’ project.
