Project Soar is doubling the number of sites in Morocco for Girl's Empowerment - After a grant from “MEPI”

Project Soar is a non-profit organization that provides academic support and a curriculum of 50 workshops to empower teenage girls. The program is based off the 5 Pillars of Empowerment where every girl is supported to know her Value, Voice, Body, Rights and Path. The goal is to raise girls’ self-esteem, keep them in school and prepare them for more productive, fulfilled futures.

The Flagship location is the village of Douar Laadam on the outskirts of Marrakech and, with support from Peace Corps volunteers, the organization is present in 12 additional sites across Morocco. To date Project Soar has worked to empower 397 Moroccan girls with the help of 313 volunteers and 26 female facilitators. There have been 221 hours of empowerment workshops and 601 hours of academic support, including high school entry exam preparatory courses.

With the support of MEPI (The Middle East Partnership Initiative) Project Soar is now doubling the number of sites and will be working in a total of 26 locations across Morocco by the end of November 2017. That means 280 more Moroccan girl beneficiaries, 1134 additional hours of empowerment and 740 hours of academic support. 24 new facilitators are receiving intensive training from November 7-13. With MEPI support, Project Soar will also be developing an Empowered Girls Camp and producing a short film entitled, What is an Empowered Girl?
