PROJECT SOAR & THE MINISTRY OF YOUTH + SPORTS PARTNER TO EMPOWER MOROCCAN TEEN GIRLS

Project Soar and the Moroccan Ministry of Youth and Sports have launched a partnership to empower Moroccan teen girls across Morocco. Together, they will establish Girl Power Centers in 32 Dar Chebabs (government-supported youth centers) to help keep teen girls in school and prepare them for more productive futures. Project Soar is a Moroccan non-profit organization. It provides teen girls with 35 empowerment workshops and sets up Girl Leader Clubs for girls to practice leadership skills, become advocates for girls’ rights, and plan for futures as contributors to the Moroccan economy.

Project Soar is present in 29 sites across Morocco and has worked to empower 700+ Moroccan girls and trained 72 female empowerment facilitators. 2290 hours of empowerment workshops have been provided. The New York Times called aspects of the program “extraordinary.” The CNN documentary, We will Rise, featuring Michelle Obama, referenced Project Soar’s work.

The new partnership with the Moroccan Ministry of Youth and Sports Project will double the number of sites where Project Soar works, training 600 hundred more Moroccan teen girls. The program will launch on June 25 and 26 with an orientation for Directors of Dar Chebabs from across the country.

“We imagine a future where Project Soar has reached every village in Morocco and where confident girls are the norm. Empowered girls become empowered women, ready to lift up their families, communities and the nation”.
– Maryam Montague, Founder and Director of Project Soar Morocco

“With Project Soar, the girls have improved their performance in school. They are getting higher grades, and their parents are noticing these positive changes. Project Soar really makes a difference.”
- Zeinab, Project Soar Facilitator, El Henchane

“The Project Soar program emphasizes that girls and boys are equal players. The program really helps build girls into future leaders. With more programs like this maybe soon we will see more women in leadership roles in government.”
