Johan Rockström and Mattias Klum headline at Society Expo 2026 in Skellefteå on World Environment Day
On World Environment Day, Society Expo 2026 presents one of its key international highlights: the independent, English-language knowledge programme Our Time on Earth.
The programme takes place on Friday, June 5, and is part of Society Expo 2026 – a 14-day international platform in Skellefteå, northern Sweden, dedicated to dialogue, collaboration and societal transformation.
Society Expo takes place in a region undergoing one of Europe’s most rapid societal transformations, where growth, change and sustainability are being navigated in real time.
At the heart of Society Expo is a shared question:
Can societies adapt and change fast – and still be sustainable?
International knowledge programme: Our Time on Earth
One of Society Expo’s key international highlights is the independent, English-language knowledge programme Our Time on Earth, taking place on Friday, 5 June.
The programme features Johan Rockström, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Professor in Earth System Science at the University of Potsdam, and Mattias Klum, distinguished photographer, artist, filmmaker and conservationist.
In the lecture “The Human Quest – Abundance within Planetary Boundaries,” they explore how human wellbeing can develop within the planet’s sustainable limits – and what is required to navigate the global societal transformation the world is currently facing.
The programme combines science, visual storytelling and reflection. Despite the seriousness of the subject matter, it conveys a strong and hopeful message. The lecture is followed by a conversation and audience Q&A, and is aimed at both the general public and professional audiences.
The programme takes place on World Environment Day, observed annually on 5 June as the United Nations’ global day for environmental awareness and action.
Our Time on Earth is free of charge. Tickets will be released on 9 February 2026 at www.se26.se.
