German born Sabine Csampai divides her time between her workshop and her home, in Tuscany and Munich. She has provided SLOWFASHIONhouse.com with two lines of pottery: Her one-off decorative bowls which are produced by a prehistoric technique, and her white glazed dining table items, usable every day and lovely next to the primitive and archetypical.

The production of black pottery can be traced back more than 4000 years, and was found in multiple cultures from east to west, from north to south.The short version of black pottery is that the bowls, or any other form of pottery you want, are fired in a simply built kiln; the objects are covered with flammable material inside the kiln and the oxygen levels are kept to a minimum, which leaves the finished product with a unique range, different for each firing, of black, brown, grey and nougat nuances produced by the smoke. After the burning process the bowls are treated with beeswax and resin; black pottery is complicated workmanship, and the firing technique difficult, maybe that's why it's called a “treasure of primitive culture”. The bowls from Sabine Csampai are an interesting mix of this old technique and a very modern idiom of form.

Her white glazed dining table items shows that when an object is executed in white, its unique character comes to the fore and is rendered at its most pure and simple. The white glazed ceramic tableware items from Sabine Csampai are not as much what you need to have, but what you would love to have in your kitchen, usable every day — the small vase, ideal for basil, mint or other eatable flowers; the egg-holder for small eggs, I just love it; and not to forget, the sieve for berries or for your kitchen hand soap.
