Presents
The 2nd year
students in the Bachelor in Circus Programmes ensemble creation:
SURFACE TENSION
Directed by:
Olle Strandberg
The next generation of circus artists from DOCH meet emerging circus director Olle Strandberg. A circus piece combining virtuosity, explosivity and physical brilliance on teeterboard, double trapez, vertical rope, handstand, hand to hand and juggling. The creative power of the 17 second year students combined with the ingeniosity of Strandberg explores and re-definings the up and coming
tendencies in the circus practices of today. Accompanied by the live western music of Andreas Tengblad, The second year students invite you on a country style circus ride.
Olle Strandberg is the in house circus director and artistic project manager of Cirkör LAB at Cirkus Cirkör, he is also artistic director of the company "Poetry in Motion" where he directed the much acclaimed performance "Undermän". Originally a juggler with a circus education behind him, Olle Strandberg is part of the new and promising brand of emerging circus authors and directors, offering a new and refreshing circus style.

The circus department at DOCH was created in 2005, it has since then gone through a number of reforms and has steadily evolved. The departments’ primary goals were to first establish a well functioning BA program that would be recognized as a quality program generating future circus artists of high caliber.
The results of our growth have been documented through the consistent recognition that ourgraduates have been getting, from awards in prestigious festivals worldwide, to the presence of our students performing in the most renown circus companies and shows internationally, Cirque du Soleil, 7Fingers, Cirkus Cirkör just to name a few, to the creation of new young emerging circus companies.
Today, with the BA program well on its feet, the circus department is going through new expansions, having moved into a new state of the art circus training hall smack in the middle of the Arts & Sciences University Campus in Stockholm, a new Master’s program in circus, a recently completed Phd with a new one in the works, two internal staff research projects and more Professorships to come.
These endeavors have propelled us into the exciting world of research.
We, the staff of the Circus Department at DOCH, will continue to strive in contributing to the development of this art form and to be one among many in Sweden putting Swedish circus on the world map.

DOCH, University of Dance and Circus
DOCH, Sweden’s highest seat of learning and research in the art of dance and circus, started in 1963 and has developed into a leading institution for artistic education. We offer top class education for choreographers, circus artists, dancers and dance pedagogues. We give those who already have a profession in dance or circus a chance to enhance their knowledge and we offer research education for artists – all of this in a dynamic and creative international environment in close collaboration between art and research.
At DOCH the tradition is challenged by innovation and experiment. Popular traditions gain new meaning and new artistic careers develop to change our ideas about what is known.
Coming to DOCH must be a challenging, enterprising, stimulating, sometimes boring, more often entertaining experience in a caring environment where everything is possible and new frontiers are opened. DOCH is not a static room, but a well-organised chaos in continuous movement, with the kind of critical curiosity driven research needed to make the world a better place and reality into something resembling our dreams.
At DOCH we do not educate for the present, but for the future. It is our students and their visions that will move the world!
