STS Climate Compensation Initiative breaks new ground in sustainable educational travel

As a company dedicated to international education and cultural exchange, it is our mission to enable young students to discover our beautiful planet, increase cultural understanding and develop into true citizens of the world. In order to be able to continue bringing children together and creating understanding relationships that stretch beyond borders, cultures and languages, it is crucial that we are able to keep travelling in a sustainable way.

STS has recently taken very important steps towards decreasing our air travel between countries that are connected by land, but many of our programmes still require air travel, which generates large amounts of CO2 and contributes to climate change, one of the biggest global challenges we face today. Therefore, we encourage all our customers to climate compensate for their air travel through the new STS Climate Compensation Initiative.

The STS Climate Compensation Initiative donates money to two causes. Half the money goes to Global Standard Certified programmes that contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. These programmes help to protect forests that are vital to our survival and restore parts of the planet that have been destroyed.

The other half of the money goes to the FlyGreenFund, a non-profit organization that buys biofuel in order to raise the demand in the market, and supports projects that contribute to the production and development of biofuel.

John Cedergårdh, CEO of STS Education, had this to say about the new initiative: “As a company responsible for the education of children and teenagers, it is our duty to impart a sense of responsibility over our impact on the climate, as well as teach good practices when it comes to travel and sustainability. The STS Climate Compensation Initiative is a great chance for us and our customers to give back and promote greener travel and the protection of the environment.”

All customers will receive more information about this initiative throughout the coming year from their local STS office.
