Artist interprets tyre recycling in new film
How can tyre recycling be interpreted through art? In a new short film from Swedish Tyre Recycling, we meet artist Agnes Widbom, who creates images from recycled tyre granulates, sunlight and her breath using an early photographic process.
The film takes us into Widbom’s process of making photograms. The image series is created by blowing recycled rubber granulates across a light-sensitive solution and exposing them to sunlight. By using her breath and the sun to create the images, the artist approaches recycling through the body and atmosphere, reflecting on why we recycle.
With a background in painting and film, Widbom works at the intersection of body, senses and surroundings. Agnes Widbom studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and has exhibited in Sweden, including Galleri Helle Knudsen in Stockholm, and internationally, including at the Swedish Institute in Paris and the Museum of Northern California Art.
The film is part of Swedish Tyre Recycling’s initiative Art of Recycling, that invites artists to interpret tyre recycling.
The production is created in collaboration with True North / True Production.
