Announcing the winners of Ung Svensk Form 2023

Leftovers, deadstock or outright rubbish – there are many ways to describe this year’s edition of Ung Svensk Form, where contestants have demonstrated how we can reuse materials and look to nature as our problem solver. We are pleased to present this year’s winners!

The 25th annual Ung Svensk Form opens on 7 February at the Greenhouse section of Stockholm Furniture Fair. This year’s line-up is brimming with circular ingenuity – leftovers are turned into furniture by humans and bark beetles alike, waste products ranging from the sun to baby clothing are put to good use, and disassembled spills from previous constructions are given new life. Complete with thought-provoking depictions of our digital lives and all-in-one solutions for clothing and interiors, Ung Svensk Form provides a sampling of our time’s most pressing issues.

– Every year, I am equally amazed when I receive the designers’ entries that have been selected by the jury of Ung Svensk Form – amazed at their straight, honest strive and their desire to make a change, their courage to go their own direction in terms of craftsmanship, material choice and expression. Of the 23 entries starring in Ung Svensk Form 2023, this force is more evident than ever, these are our stars of tomorrow whose brilliance will dazzle us, says Karin Wiberg, project manager of Ung Svensk Form.

Press screening and scholarship awards ceremony
This year is Ung Svensk Form’s silver jubilee! That calls for celebration, not least by once again counting Stockholm Furniture Fair as one of our main partners. The exhibition will open at 10:30 on 7 February at Greenhouse – the fair’s most international and visionary section. The opening will be followed by Ung Svensk Form’s scholarship awards ceremony. Awards include work, travel and exhibition scholarships from Arvet, IKEA of Sweden, Kvadrat, Lammhults Möbel, Massive Entertainment, the Röhsska Museum and Dynamo Väst, Swedish Tanners, String Furniture and Swedish Wood. An added feature this year is a brand new scholarship announced on stage.

– Ung Svensk Form is an important platform for young, innovative designers who demonstrate that good design has many different expressions. IKEA has been involved since the start 25 years ago and, as a producer, we are proud to contribute to spreading innovative ideas to more people, says Anna Sandberg Falk, curator at IKEA Museum.

– We are very happy to welcome Ung Svensk Form back to Greenhouse, says Hanna Nova Beatrice, project area manager for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair and Stockholm Design Week. Ung Svensk Form and Greenhouse are driven by the same goal – to promote young design and provide a springboard into the industry.

Ung Svensk Form 2023 is a co-production between Svensk Form and IKEA Museum. The project is carried out in collaboration with IKEA of Sweden, the City of Malmö, Stockholm Furniture Fair, Swedish Wood and a long list of exhibition organisers and scholarship donors.
