Form magazine launches a new format and expanded editorial depth
Form, the world’s oldest design magazine still in publication, celebrates its 120th anniversary.
On October 17, the 880th issue will be released, marking a new chapter in Form’s history. With an updated format, visual identity and editorial direction, the magazine steps into the future with deeper and bilingual content.
The relaunch is led by Editor-in-Chief Gustaf Kjellin and Graphic Designer Cecilia Lindgren of Studio Riitta, working in close collaboration with The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design. The project has been developed over several months through dialogue with readers, members, regional associations, and key figures in the design industry, as well as educational institutions and cultural organizations.
Form is published four times a year and is now bilingual, featuring both Swedish and English in the same issue. The format has been made smaller to improve usability, the content focuses on longer texts, and the visual design offers a new and more varied reading experience.
“A living cultural heritage like Form must constantly evolve to remain relevant and survive challenging times for the written word and print media. Working on this extensive relaunch has been incredibly rewarding, and I am so pleased that we can finally share the result with our readers,” says Gustaf Kjellin, Editor-in-Chief of Form.
“With the new compact format, we have rethought the relationship between text and image. In-depth writing is at the center, while images serve as support. The design of the new logo creates a sense of dualism in a unified form, reflecting the brand’s multifaceted perspective, history and ambition,” says Cecilia Lindgren, Graphic Designer at Studio Riitta.
For The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design, the renewal is part of a long-term effort to develop and deepen the conversation about design and its many forms, across more contexts where design meets society, culture and everyday life. The ambition is to broaden perspectives and create a platform for reflection, analysis and debate that moves in step with the times.
“Form has always been a mirror of its time. With this relaunch, we want to preserve its heritage while opening up to new perspectives, where Swedish and international voices meet in the same publication. It is an important step in keeping the conversation about form and design alive,” says Björn Nordin, CEO of The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design.
The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design would also like to express its sincere gratitude to The Robert Weil Family Foundation for supporting the development of Form’s new design.
Form No. 3/2025 will be available from October 17, 2025.
