Seminar On Urban Sustainablility In Mexico

On November 4, 2008, the the Swedish Embassy and the Swedish Trade Council in Mexico arranged a seminar on urban sustainibility.

The Swedish Minister for the Environment, Andreas Carlgren, presented the SymbioCity concept and how Stockholm has gone from being an oil-dependent, industrialized and polluted city in the 1970's towards today's city with green areas, clean water, recycled garbage, water treatment plants, highly decreased oil dependence, renewable energy sources and strongly improved energy efficiency.

Mr. Cesar Chávez, General Director of the Mexican Environment and Natural Resources Secretariat (SEMARNAT) held a speech where he explained the complex environmental situation in Mexico and which measures that are needed in order to improve the country's environmental conditions.

Mauricio Vaca Gómez, General Director at ITT México presented "ITT - Engineering for Life". He mainly talked about waste water treatments in an efficient and environmental conscious way.

Jonas Törnblom, Marketing/Communications Manager at Envac AB presented "Relieving the Cities of Their Escalating Waste Problems". He talked about the world's increasing waste problem and presented the Envac underground waste transport technology solution. The Envac system is already in use in several Spanish cities such as Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Seville.
