New milestone as Atlanta’s tallest building takes shap

Thomas Concrete Group continues deliveries to what will be the tallest building constructed in Atlanta in more than three decades. The project is nearing the final floors, and the majority of the concrete is now in place.

Thomas Concrete Inc. has delivered more than 61,000 cubic yards and anticipates delivering an additional 5,000 cubic yards to one of the city’s most complex construction projects.

“The project is progressing according to plan, and we are proud of the progress so far. This assignment combines high architectural ambitions with clear climate targets and advanced construction technology. We have demonstrated that we can deliver solutions that reduce environmental impact while meeting the building’s stringent performance requirements,” says Hans Karlander, President and CEO of Thomas Concrete Group.

The building will house both residences and offices in Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, in the southeastern United States. Rising quickly in the heart of Midtown, the complex has presented its own challenges. From the outset, the project required demanding standards for both materials and logistics. Construction in a dense urban environment has called for carefully coordinated deliveries.

“We have long experience supplying high-rise projects in urban settings, which has been invaluable in Atlanta. Our laboratories and engineering team have played a key role in developing the advanced concrete used here. We’re also seeing strong results in execution,” says Hans Karlander, President and CEO of Thomas Concrete Group.

High technical standards
The concrete supplied by Thomas Concrete Inc. meets modulus of elasticity requirements to withstand strong winds and seismic activity. At the same time, the climate impact is reduced through lower cement content. For the mass pours, mixes were developed with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 181 kilograms of CO₂e per cubic meter – a very low level for this scale.

“We needed to meet modulus-of-elasticity requirements while keeping cement usage low. That’s uncommon in this part of the U.S., but our team handled the challenge very well,” says Chris Nowicki, Commercial Sales, Thomas Concrete in Atlanta.

The project remains on schedule, with the next phase focusing on the remaining pours ahead of completion in 2026.
