Swedish Aerospace Delegation at NASA Ames visit June 10-11, 2013

A Swedish aerospace delegation visited NASA Ames in San Francisco, June 10-11. The group, that included Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang, was made up of 14 representatives from the Swedish business, academia and entrepreneurial communities.

Cecilia Hertz, CEO of Umbilical Design, led the delegation, invited by NASA to meet with experts in various fields, such as AI, green building and sustainability.

“Technology developed for space serves as a driving force in developing sustainable solutions for earth. Space technology transfer is a potential growth engine for Sweden and an innovative force for Swedish industry. The Swedish visit to NASA is an important step forward towards strengthening Sweden's position in this field,” says Cecilia Hertz.

I gruppen, som består av 14 representanter från svenskt näringsliv, högskolor och entreprenörsföretag, ingår även den svenska astronauten Christer Fuglesang. Rymdföretaget Umbilical Design och ÅF inleder samarbete för att Sverige ska bli bäst i Europa på hållbar rymdtekniköverföring

Rymdtekniköverföring, eller space technology transfer, handlar om att hitta teknologier och koncept inom rymdindustrin som kan tillämpas på andra områden, som till exempel inom medicinsk teknik, fordonsindustrin eller hållbar stadsplanering. Rymdföretaget Umbilical Design och teknikkonsultföretaget ÅF inleder nu ett samarbete för att Sverige ska bli bäst i Europa inom hållbar rymdtekniköverföring.

Björn Borg har samarbetat med hyperteknologiska rymddesigners och den svenska stålindustrin. Målet? Att kunna erbjuda flamsäkra underkläder som klarar den extrema hettan i stålverk och potentiella rymdresor. Kollektionen lanseras i Almedalen 2 juli och samtidigt instiftas priset Stålbrallan som delas ut för första gången av Christer Fuglesang.

Street Gäris vann Stålbrallan 2014

Vinnare av det nyinstiftade Almedalspriset Stålbrallan blev kvinnonätverket Street Gäris. Christer Fuglesang delade under Almedalsveckan ut priset som Björn Borg, Jernkontoret och Umbilical design står bakom. Stålbrallan är ett pris som skapats för att uppmuntra en person eller grupp som utmanat och förbättrat genom korsbefruktning och gränsöverskridande samarbeten.

Umbilical Design hosts Northern Region Sustainability Roundtable in Sweden, in collaboration with European Space Agency – Coordination Office on Sustainable Development

European Space Agency – Coordination Office on Sustainable Development and Umbilical Design co-organize ESA’s Northern Region Sustainability Roundtable, to be held in Stockholm – Sweden, on November 10th and 11th 2014. Representatives from national space agencies, ESA, companies of the space and sustainability sector as well as forefront researchers will be attending the event.
