Counties, nations, statistics and interesting facts ahead of Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2026
Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2026 begins on Friday, February 20 at 09:00 with Vasaloppet 30, a 30-kilometre race from Oxberg to Mora. This is the first of 14 ski races during the Winter Week 2026, with distances ranging from 9 to 90 kilometres. The highlight will be “Vasaloppet Sunday” on March 1, when the 102nd Vasaloppet in history takes place. Currently, 59,000 participants from 66 nations are registered, and the forecast indicates that more than 60,000 skiers are expected to sign up for the Winter Week 2026.
You can register online on Vasaloppet’s website or on location on the day of the race. Therefore, the latest statistics presented here from Monday, February 16, 2026, are not final. Places are still available in all races except Öppet Spår Sunday, which became fully booked on January 9.
The currently registered 59,000 skiers come from all of Sweden’s 21 counties and from all 290 municipalities in the country!
They also come from 65 other nations, including countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, North America and South America.
Participants in the individual races are between 7 and 90 years old. Of them, 58 percent are men and 42 percent women. The average age is 42.0, which is close to Sweden’s national average age of 42.2 according to Statistics Sweden.
The 14 races range from 9 to 90 km. A total of 30,012 participants are registered for one of the 90 km races, tackling the full distance from Sälen to Mora.
Among those registered for 90 km races, 310 are Vasaloppet veterans, meaning they have participated in Vasaloppet and/or Öppet Spår/Nattvasan 90 for at least 30 years. As always, these veterans wear orange number bibs.
So far, 266 participants are registered to complete Vasaloppstrippeln this year, meaning they will take part in a ski race during the Winter Week plus a mountain bike race and a running race over the same distance during Vasaloppet’s Summer Week in August. There are three distances to choose from: 30, 45 and 90 km.
It should also be noted that currently 12,500 participants are registered for the cycling and running races in Vasaloppet’s Summer Week, including Ultravasan 90, which in 2026 will have Swedish Championship status.
