A wide, sundrenched staircase leads up to the building hosting the Södertälje Science Parks, south of Stockholm. A new extension in timber and glass articulates with the bricks 🧱 on the older building, which has a very important mission – to foster the collaboration between the municipality, the academic world and the private sector.

KTH had high ambitions – to become Sweden’s most desired workplace for young innovators as well as a cluster where the private sector, research and education would summon. This required flexible facilities that would serve operations well. Södertälje Science Park and the offices of AstraZeneca 🧬 are in the direct vicinity, which opened up for the possibility of transforming the area into an open campus that prompts collaboration across organisations, but also serving as an iconic meeting place 🌸 for the whole city.

Idag släpper vi vår års- och hållbarhetsrapport 2019. Med arkitekturens kraft driver vi omställningen till ett håll… https://t.co/vR7kHcVocT

Situated on the banks of the River Nissan, Halland Art Museum is the regional centre for visual culture. The remodelling and expansion of the museum and grounds creates a new meeting place and cultural park for all ages; a place where creativity and nature are part of everyday life.

Art 🖼️ plays an important role in the design of the new museum spaces, as well as the landscape outside. Artists worked alongside our design team to create a new civic architecture that breathes culture; inside and out.

Placing new volumes north of the existing museum creates a new welcoming entrance with a gallery working as a hub that links the new and old parts of the museum. It is a bright space, filled with daylight from where visitors can admire the surrounding landscape 🌞 and view activities within the museum.

In contrast to the open, light filled entrance gallery, the new exhibition space takes the form of a closed, energy efficient concrete volume. The pre-cast concrete exterior is covered with a repeating pattern; an abstracted reference to the existing building façades.

Går det att bygga bort ensamhet? Det är en fråga som diskuteras i ett inslag i Ekdahl & Ekdal ikväll kl. 20 på svt… https://t.co/En8LSNn3CG

Outstanding acoustics and a grand entrance paying tribute to the original building. The audience was in focus when Örebro Konserthus re-emerged 2015.

They can now enjoy more rooms for 🎶 music - and in the concert hall, ceiling height is increased and more daylight is let in. Georg Ahrn's original building from 1932 is now a classic building with two modern glazed extensions.

Hocus Focus! How can interiors help people shift focus from anxiety when in a hospital environment?

A research team at White, specializing in interior architecture and lighting, developed a design that aimed to do exactly that at the pediatric ward at Queen Silvias Children´s hospital.

The main objective was to make a child friendly space that would muffle both the dominance of clinical equipment and the institutional feel of the surroundings. In dialogue with medical staff, patients, parents and relatives, the architects learned about what makes children´s favorite places🐞.
The project resulted in an interior decorated with images 🦊 of the seasons and lightning schemes that featured calming focal points and a shifting lighting scheme to disconnect patients from negative feelings 🦋.

Spring is here, and in Umeå, up north in Sweden, the afternoon sun is shining on Väven, a venue designed by us. In these times of social distancing, it helps that our architecture can be experienced from the outside as well as the inside. Contact doesn't take place because of architecture. Contact takes place in the experience of architecture. 📸: August Edwards

Oh the magic of light! 🔮 It unites art, science, differentiates textures and shapes and is an excellent storyteller. No wonder we love it!

The Public Light Lab is an innovative social design project in Bergsjön, Gothenburg, where children were taken on a educational journey through different aspects of light and space, guided by a "Light Guardian".
💡Light as a cultural phenomenon is a positive force and a socially unifying art form that makes great difference in physical spaces. During a period of five weeks, 1000 school children participated in this interactive expedition, enriching perceptions of light and the stories it tell.

Naturum Kosterhavet 🌊is a visitor centre in Eknäs, Koster - Sweden´s most westerly outpost - where sea, wind and the existing buildings of the fishing village🐟 🦀 set the tone for the project.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has established an outstanding architectural standard for its visitor centres in national parks, nature reserves 🌳and unusual habitats around Sweden, and we are proud to have designed this Naturum, surrounded by crystal clear sea and the enchanting Koster Light.

Smooth timber-panels dyed Falun red clads the façades and roof, giving the visitor centre a uniform volume and its own personality in contrast with the older buildings of the archipelago. 📸: @akeeson

In Hökarängen outside Stockholm, we have designed a residential building inspired by 1950´s developments as well as timeless design. The raw concrete surface has a relief pattern, with shadows shifting throughout the day and year. As a contrast to the concrete, timber parts contribute with a warm feeling to the building. 📸:@anders_foto

Huge change is afoot in the Arctic city of Kiruna. As part of a 100 year strategy to move the city eastwards we took the train to Kiruna to put together our first studio inside the polar circle, complete with a community hub where locals can drop in for a coffee ☕ , browse through drawings, reading material, and discuss Kiruna’s future together.
A key strategy in the masterplan design for the new Kiruna is to reclaim and re-use materials and cultural artefacts from the former city and the same goes for the studio that have been given the name “Ett Arkitektkontor” - An architecture studio.

Occupying a vacant store in the existing city centre, materials and furniture have been collected ♻️ from different parts of Kiruna and put to use in the studio, infusing the interior with a distinct local identity.
