Yangi Receives 40 MSEK from the Swedish Energy Agency to Accelerate Industrial-Scale Dry Forming

Yangi, a pioneer in fiber-based packaging innovation, has been awarded 40 MSEK from the Swedish Energy Agency’s Pilot and Demonstration Program to establish Celerate, the company’s first full-scale demonstration plant for industrializing its dry forming platform, Cellera®.

Yangi was selected alongside eight other leading Swedish industrial innovation projects within the Pilot and Demonstration Program. The funding is part of a national initiative totaling 240 million SEK, allocated to nine leading Swedish projects driving climate impact reduction and industrial competitiveness. Yangi’s project was selected for its strong potential to enable large-scale replacement of fossil-based plastics with renewable, energy-efficient fiber solutions.

Dry forming, Yangi’s core technology, replaces rigid plastic with dry-formed cellulose while using up to 80% less energy and minimal added water in the forming process. Celerate represents a decisive step toward global commercialization, allowing converters and brand owners to validate dry-formed applications at industrial speed.

Part of Sweden’s national effort to accelerate climate-positive innovation

In its announcement, the Swedish Energy Agency emphasized the strategic importance of this year’s selected projects, which address some of the nation’s most urgent climate and energy challenges, from industrial transformation to resource efficiency. Yangi’s project contributes directly to these goals by drastically lowering energy consumption in forming processes, enabling large-scale substitution of fossil-based plastics, supporting the transition to renewable and circular materials, and providing a scalable production platform for global packaging markets.

“This support enables us to take a decisive step into full industrial readiness,” says Johann Kaiser, CEO of Yangi. “The Celerate demo plant is the bridge between innovation and large-scale market deployment. It strengthens our shared ability with customers to accelerate the shift from plastic to paper fiber.”

The Celerate facility will serve as Yangi’s industrial hub for demonstrating high-performance fiber packaging, supporting the rollout of Cellera® ahead of its first commercial production expected as early as 2026.
