By using lignin from the forest, we can reduce the amount of fossil oil in asphalt – and this reduces the climate impact.
Welcome to our live webinar – on 18 February between 12.00 and 12.45
You can learn about Peab Asfalt’s and Sekab’s experience of using lignin from forest residues in asphalt and hear about future possibilities. Just over six months ago, in the summer of 2020, the first field trials began on a stretch of road in the city centre of Sundsvall.
By replacing some oil-based bitumen with lignin produced from forest residues, you get asphalt with less climate impact. This work forms part of the EU-project REWOFUEL in which lignin has been produced with the help of Sekab’s CelluAPP® technology and then tested and used by Peab Asfalt in its asphalt production.
Agenda:
12.00 – 12.02 The moderator welcomes participants – Lena Nordgren, Biofuel Expert Sekab
12.02 – 12.15 About the REWOFUEL project and lignin production – Monica Normark, CTO Sekab
12.15 – 12.35 Lignin in asphalt – Mats Wendel, Innovation Strategist and Lars Jansson, CTO Peab Asphalt
12.35 – 12.45 Questions and answers

More About REWOFUEL
REWOFUEL’s goal is to demonstrate the performance, reliability, environmental and socio-economic sustainability of the entire value chain, from the transformation of residual softwood into hydrolysate (RWH), the conversion of RWH into bio-Isobutene (bio-IBN) by fermentation and the further conversion to biofuels. To achieve these goals a team of eleven partners, leaders in their respective fields, originating from seven EU member states, will join forces.
More About Sekab
SEKAB is a Swedish chemical and Cleantech company. We process ethanol into biofuels and chemicals. We develop technology for new product opportunities based on cellulose raw materials. Our aim is to help reduce dependence on fossil raw materials and fuels.
More About PEAB
PEAB is one of the leading Nordic construction and civil engineering companies with more than 16 000 employees and net sales of SEK 55 billion. Peab Asfalt AB, part of PEAB, has laboratory and demo facilities and collaborates with its suppliers in the development and testing of new components.
