- SINGAPORE, July 11, 2017 -

Following the inaugural launch of last year’s Epson Singapore Cup, Epson Singapore today announced the return of this football tournament. This year, it returns bigger and better with a new tournament name called Epson Youth Challenge, which will take place from 22 to 29 July 2017. Preliminary rounds will be held on 22 and 23 July at Serangoon Stadium, followed by knockout stages and finals on 29 July at The Padang.

In partnership with Geylang International Football Club (GIFC), and in support of GetActive! Singapore, this football tournament is now open to a wider age group, ranging from 6 to 18 years old. The 5-a-side tournament includes a total of nine categories with the top three teams in each category winning Epson products and other attractive prizes. In addition, the two most valuable players from the Boys Under 16 & Under 18 categories will win a once-in-a-lifetime training stint with Matsumoto Yamaga Football Club in Matsumoto, Japan.

Registration for the tournament is open until 16 July 2017 for the following categories:

  • Mixed gender teams (Under 8, Under 10 and Under 12)
  • Girls only teams (Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18)
  • Boys only teams (Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18)

“Epson has a long and proud association with football in Singapore and we’re particularly proud to host events such as Epson Youth Challenge that promote new platforms for youth development through sports,” said Ms. Tan May Lin, General Manager, Sales, Marketing and Customer Service Division, Epson Singapore. “I’d like to thank our distinguished partners for their invaluable contribution to this year’s tournament, and for making it bigger and better than ever before. We wish all teams the best of luck.”

In addition to hosting the tournament, Epson Singapore is sponsoring a team from Lakeside Family Services. The organisation provides casework and counselling, financial assistance, information and referral services targeting family needs for people of all ages, regardless of race, language or religion. In preparation for the tournament, coaches and players from Geylang International Football Club are running an exclusive soccer clinic for the Lakeside Family Services team. The clinic includes footballing drills, formation training and advice on how to approach the tournament.

“We are very happy to be involved in the Epson Youth Challenge,” said Geylang International Chairman Ben Teng. “GIFC has a long and proud tradition of developing young players and we hope that the tournament will unearth young footballing talent who can eventually play for us and Singapore in the future.”

Mr. Lai Chin Kwang, Chief of ActiveSG said, “We are delighted to see Epson step forward to contribute to Singapore Football. Corporations play an important role in helping our sports ecosystem thrive and we hope that more organisations will follow Epson’s lead to support one of Singapore’s favorite sports.”

Epson Youth Challenge 2017 is held in support of GetActive! Singapore and Singapore Football Week, and in celebration of Singapore Youth Olympic Festival 2017.
