Engineered Wood Flooring ~ An Introduction Buying Guide

Imagine a sandwich made of layers of wood, in layman terms, you'll have engineered wood. Engineered wood can considered one of the most wonderful inventions in the world of flooring today.

A quality engineeered wood flooring is usually consist of exactly 3 layers of real wood. The inner layer, also known  as the core layers, supports and holds the entire engineered wood flooring board. For example, hevea is usually recommended for Southeast Asian countries, due to its stability when the wood reacts with the tropical surrounding. In order to have a long lasting flooring, buyers should avoid core layer that is made up of low quality soft plywood and chipboard.

The second layer adds as an further enhancement to the overall stability of the engineered wood floorboard. Reputable suppliers will usually invest more by manufacturing this additional 2nd layer in order to produce quality products. New buyers should also be aware of this additional 2nd layer that will greatly enhance the quality of the floorboard.

The third layer of the engineered wood is the surface layer. This represents the appearance and the color of the particular engineered wood flooring board. The engineered wood floorboard can be easy stained and re-varnished. 3.5mm thickness should be the recommended depth for a good engineered wood floorboard so that the flooring can last for a very long term of 20 years or more. Hence, the buyer should always check the specifications of the particular engineered wood flooring products for such details.

Engineered wood flooring is more stable than common wood materials such as parquet and solid wood flooring. It can be used in all parts of the home such as living room, bedroom, the kitchen and even for high traffic commercial areas such as shopping malls, retail outlets and dining restaurants.

Engineered wood flooring is one of the most Eco friendly products today. It is a strong subsitute to solid timber flooring and it gives a better real wood feel than laminate or vinyl flooring. By investing a premium on good quality engineered wood flooring products, the owner can have long lasting wood flooring which not even beautify the home but also adds on the luxury and tranquility to it.
