Singapore Flooring Trends 2013

"The flooring trend in Singapore today is rather slow but moving in a positive way." said Dennis Teo, Group Managing Director of Evorich Flooring.

"Over the past three years since 2010, we have seen an increase in the demand for indoor flooring products that requires minimal maintenance; other than product quality, home owners are concerned about having more quality time at home." he added.

Indeed, as society advances, the trend for lifestyle furnishing products will also change as well. Families in Singapore today usually consist of a large part, where homes have both working parents. Hence, there is a rise in the demand for "low-maintenance and long-lasting" flooring products. One example of such flooring is high end resilient flooring, or in short, HERF.

Most home owners in Singapore today see HERF as a long-lasting product that does not required much maintenance in the longer run, unlike traditional parquet. HERF is also 100 per cent waterproof that makes it recommended for tropical countries such as Singapore where there is a high level of moist content.

Next, we have also seen that Singapore home owners are more keen to have an unique design interior space of their own. Hence, dull and plain designed floor such as ceramic tiles, homogeneous tiles and  other run-of-the-mill floor design are beginning to fall in its demand. We kinda like wanting something more; something that can make our home pleasant and uniquely into the style of each of our individual taste.

This also gives rise to the trend for wood designed or patterned flooring which is commonly found in most laminate flooring, high end resilient flooring and also engineered wood flooring today.

Another trend, we seen is the rise in demand for outdoor flooring (decking) products; new apartments today (private as well as semi public such as the DBSS), have designs such as the planter balcony area. More home owners in Singapore are selecting premium quality decking products to use for their private alfresco haven.

While the supply of properties in Singapore continues to be built and as living lifestyle demands change, we will also be then seeing a continual rise in demand for good quality flooring (indoor and outdoor) in the future.
