Miya Toh practices what she preaches in Zoom interview about Zoom interviews

There are a lot of self-professed gurus out there proffering advice on how to handle job interviews via Zoom.

Miya Toh, a principal consultant at recruitment firm Robert Walters, shares in an interview how to have successful Zoom discussions when you are working from home.

She shows how confidence and giving clear answers can make an interview come alive, which is why we have nominated her for the Hong Bao Media Savvy Awards 2020.

Watch and read below for my assessment.

We launched the Hong Bao Media Savvy Awards in 2018 to recognise local business leaders for their communications skills, and to showcase authentic and credible home-grown communicators.

Supported by the Asia Pacific Association of Communications Directors, we highlight shining examples for other local business leaders to follow, and to build a culture of excellence in communication, to maximise the potential of Asian companies in the Asian Century.

  • Strong voice

Toh’s voice is clear and strong, which projects confidence and draws in listeners.

  • Clarity of answers

Toh speaks in short sentences for maximum impact, and she gives clear answers without using jargon. We think she picks her words well so that she can be better understood.

  • Bridge

When asked about giving answers for working from home, Toh uses the opportunity to slip in the mention of a guide by Robert Walters about working from home, without sounding contrived. Nicely done.

I would also like to hold up Toh as an example to anyone who thinks their local accent might prevent them from being a good media presenter. Toh clearly has a Singaporean accent, but she speaks clearly and projects confidence, which makes people want to listen to what she has to say.

An accent is definitely not an obstacle to being a good media presenter.

If you know Miya Toh, share this article with her and congratulate her on being nominated for the Hong Bao Media Savvy Awards 2020.
