Gentle Reminder: Seminar on the upcoming changes to the Employment Act 10 January

NBAS is pleased to invite you to a seminar on the upcoming changes in the Employment Act 10 January.

Singapore’s employment law regime has been long seen as employer friendly and is now being radically overhauled, with changes coming into effect from April 2019.

One of the most important changes is that wrongful and constructive dismissal compensation claims will now be heard by Employment Claims Tribunals. Furthermore, there will be additional changes to the Employment Act which will now cover all private sector employees in Singapore, which will impact each and everyone one of us. During this session Ian Lim will discuss the more salient amendments, and what employers should do to ready themselves for the coming new normal.

Ian heads TSMP’s Employment & Labour team. His practice has a specific emphasis on all aspects of Singapore and regional employment law, particularly on both contentious and non-contentious issues of non-competition, confidentiality & data privacy, dismissal, harassment, M&A employee transfers and industrial relations. Ian is the lead author for the Singapore chapters of annual international publications “The Employment Law Review” and “Getting the Deal Through – Labour & Employment”, as well as the Employment Contracts chapter of ‘Law Relating to Specific Contracts in Singapore.

Ian serves as Chairman on the Civil Practice Committee of the Law Society of Singapore, and is an appointed Referee of the Small Claims Tribunals in the State Courts as well as a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (FSIArb). He is also active in pro-bono and charitable work, with a focus on migrant worker welfare.
