Crazy Rich Asians: The Rise of the Super-Rich in Singapore, India and Beyond

We are pleased to invite you to an evening seminar about “Crazy Rich Asians: The Rise of the Super-Rich in Singapore, India and Beyond” with Mr James Crabtree, who will be "in conversation" with Singapore policy expert Mr Donald Low on Tuesday 20th November at the Norwegian Ambassador’s residence.

Mr Crabtree will delve deeper into the blockbuster movie Crazy Rich Asians. The movie showcases Asia’s riches nation, Singapore, and has won the audience over with its portrayal of Asia’s nouveau riche. What is even more interesting are the underlying core topics of the film such as; cultural significance, the wealth shift from west to east, racial politics, the growth gap between the rich and the poor, and the tension between western and eastern values.

Following Mr Crabtree's introduction he will be joined by Mr Low where they will hold a candid discussion about the income inequality in Singapore, SEA and beyond.

Furthermore, Mr Crabtree will present his newly published book The Billionaire Raj: A Journey Through India’s New Gilded Age.

About The Billionaire Raj

James Crabtree is a writer, journalist and author living in Singapore. He is currently an associate professor of practice at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, and a senior fellow at the school’s Centre on Asia and Globalisation. His first book, The Billionaire Raj: A Journey Through India’s New Gilded Age, was published in mid-2018.

Donald Low is an accomplished writer, speaker and consultant with extensive experience in the public, private and higher education sectors. He works as Associate Partner at Centennial Asia Advisor. Prior to joining Centennial, Donald was the associate dean of executive education and research at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, from 2013 to 2018. Donald holds a double first in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University, and a Masters in International Public Policy from The Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies and has written two books.
