Celtic Compass operates learning tours in remote, less explored sites in Scotland and Wales

Edinburgh, Scotland - Get a greater, emotive sense of the remote, less explored and historically rich Celtic lands of Scotland and Wales through specialist, small group tours organised by Celtic Compass. Celtic Compass matches travellers with deeply experienced travel guides, who are also subject matter experts, that you explore ancient and sacred sites through storytelling, poetry, history, geology, art, archeoastronomy and ecology of these traditional lands.

Tours include:

  • Travel with a Highland Clan Storyteller who relates stories with his harp, and at the dramatic setting of the Clans’ castle, which guards the entrance to the Sound of Mull and the western seaboard, meet with the Chief of the Clan Maclean’s, Sir Lachlan Maclean of Duart and Morvern
  • From a specialist in archeaoastronomy, learn landscape interpretation of the ancient and megalithic sites in Scotland and Wales, including visiting the source of the stones used to build the inner circle Stonehenge
  • Discover the stories and myths surrounding some of Scotland and Wales’s most sacred glens, while travelling through them.
  • Learn from its builder of how a stunning stone circle was constructed using traditional methods that would have been used in Neolithic times
  • Travel with an expert in Neolithic living on a tour through Highland meadows to learn how our ancestors lived. You’ll be accompanied by Fergus the Shetland pony, a trusty highland steed and a very special refreshments bearer
  • Learn about sustainability and working in partnership with the land on an award winning Hebridean eco croft
  • Learn how the Western seaboard has been an invaluable highway since early times and of the interconnectedness of all the western lands from Ireland right up to Scandinavia
  • Take a walk back in time with an expert on a geological tour of the beautiful Inner Hebridean Islands of Mull, Iona and Staffa

Along with learning tours, visitors can also explore the craftsmanship of the Hebrides by visiting a traditional weaving mill that only uses seaweed and natural dyes for its highly regarded knitwear. During the tour, visitors can bring their journey to life with an artistic record of their experience of the landscape, and through monoprinting create a wonderful memento of the trip.

Food and beverage tours include sampling award-winning, artisan gin and whisky; including exploring the drying rooms of the organic herbs used to make colour-changing gins!

Experience delicious chocolate tasting at an emminent chocolatier, or visit a Highland smokehouse set in stunning native woodland to see how Scotland’s famous smoked products are produced.

Celtic Compass create bespoke itineraries upon request and offer sign language experts to help those hard of hearing on short tours.
