Silkair Commences Services to Changsha

SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, celebrated the start of direct scheduled air services between Singapore and Changsha, China, today, with the departure of its inaugural flight MI 954 from Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2 at 1245 hours.

The flight is scheduled to touch down at Changsha Huanghua International Airport at 1720 hours today. The return flight, MI 953 will depart Changsha at 1815 hours and is scheduled to reach Singapore at 2300 hours (all times local).

Changsha is the sixth city served by SilkAir in China, after Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Shenzhen and Xiamen, and the 38th in the airline's network.  The service operates three times weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

SilkAir's Chief Executive, Mr Marvin Tan, says the new route will strengthen the airline's presence in China.

"We are delighted to welcome Changsha to SilkAir's growing network of destinations. Changsha is a major port as well as commercial and industrial centre and is known as one of China's top 20 economically advanced cities. It is also rich in historical and cultural attractions, being the place where Chairman Mao Zedong grew up in. We believe this new route will prove popular to both business and leisure travelers alike," he said.

In celebration of this special occasion, customers on the first flight out of Singapore were presented with a pack of black Chinese tea specially flown in from Changsha.

Passengers travelling on the first flight out of Changsha received exclusively produced SilkAir notebooks.
