Dry cargo chartering knowledge leader series kicks off in Singapore

The Fullerton Hotel in Singapore will be the setting when top shipping executives gather for the first event in the TradeWinds knowledge leader series. Focused on the dry cargo chartering community TradeWinds first Charterers Seminar will launch with Singapore Maritime Week as the backdrop.

At the TradeWinds Charterers Forum on dry bulk last November, delegates came away in bullish mood. But it's not all plain sailing and now is a good time to consider not only the future of dry bulk trade and the key drivers, but also the future direction of chartering.

This April’s Charterers Seminar – Dry Cargo, will scrutinise the ship, the charter party, and the charterer.

As the foundation stone in the development of the Knowledge leader series for the dry cargo chartering community, the format of this half-day event will combine case study presentations, panel debates and a cabaret-style seating arrangement to foster full interaction between audience and speaker panel. The industry's most innovative and forward-thinking individuals will contribute as knowledge leaders to the development of the seminar programme and to share their views on the day with the strictly limited number of delegates. Confirmed speakers and panellists include; Peter Lye – Global Head of Shipping at Anglo American, Jeremy Penn – Chief Executive, the Baltic Exchange, John Denholm – President of BIMCO, Andy Barker – Head of Ocean Transportation at Cargill, Niels A. Josefsen – President of Klaveness Asia, Capt Sanjeev Buckshee – COO at Siva Bulk and Yahya Karahasan – Partner, Executive Director, Dry Cargo Chartering Asia at Simpson Spence & Young.

Mike Porter, Events Consultant for TradeWinds is looking forward to some open debate on issues such as the conflicts between owners and charterers in the Asian markets and how they can be addressed. Mike commented; “As a main objective of the knowledge leader series we will be considering which of the key issues discussed during the seminar warrant continuous dialogue and ongoing activity for the benefit of the chartering community through to the next event in the series, the TradeWinds Charterers Forum taking place in Geneva in November.”

The principal sponsor of the Charterers Seminar is Classification Society ABS whilst The Baltic Exchange, Intercargo and BIMCO lend their official support as Industry bodies. The event is officially held in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Week and substantial training grant status for eligible delegates offered by Singapore’s MPA has been applied for.

TradeWinds Events is the conference arm of shipping news provider TradeWinds. We help move business forward through information exchange, stimulating fresh thinking and professional networking. We produce lively, independent and interactive conferences covering a wide range of maritime sectors, including ship building,  ship recycling, marine insurance, maritime security, offshore shipping and  technology, and vessel chartering. Each conference agenda is carefully designed to tackle the most topical and often controversial subjects. We do not offer time on the podium in exchange for sponsorship, but rather on the merits of the contribution and we continually appraise our performance via regular delegate feedback surveys

Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) is the leading maritime event in Singapore. Driven by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), SMW gathers the international maritime community in Singapore for a week of conferences, dialogues, exhibitions and social events in celebration of all things maritime. The range of activities and events organised by MPA, the industry, and research and educational institutions, as well as the cosmopolitan profile of participants, reflect the vibrancy and diversity of Singapore as a major international maritime centre. The dynamism and good range of issues discussed during SMW are major draws for maritime decision-makers, as are the many business networking platforms.
