UPRtek New Firmware Update For Handheld Spectrometer –Chrome Viewer CV600 (Version 1.0.0.B23)

UPRtek, the pioneer in portable handheld spectrometers for lighting, release a new Firmware Update Version 1.0.0.B23 for the Spectrometer – Chrome Viewer CV600 includes multi languages to fulfill worldwide users’ need , and improves the Flicker mode to enhance your efficiency at work.

Flicker Mode Improvement
Purpose:

Help photographers grasp the light and camera frequency to create a flicker free environment for shooting.

Update:

Lighting Threshold range: 5%~20%;update to 0.5%~20% (downward adjustment)
Lighting Threshold setting: 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%;add 0.5%、1%.

Description:

UPRtek decided to update the algorithm of Flicker mode after many photographers tried to use CV600 during product developing. Photographers and gaffers found that if CV600 has more options (4 setting options upgrade to 6 options) ofLighting Threshold setting that would allow them to adjust lighting flexibly according to the scene condition when shooting. For Lighting Threshold range, downward the setting value expected to let photographers have more stringent standards to detect Flicker.

IF your shooting team is broadcasting an exciting competition live show but the flicker happened just like the picture on right...
You may probably start to worry about losing next broadcasting rights, having bad rating and not good impression of the channel.

From another point of view, if you are a post production supervisor and find flickers when editing the film, you might need to shoot it again for better quality. Then it definitely will cost a lot such like pay for actors, rental of site, props cost, director, film companies …etc.

So, the shooting team will spend a lot of effort avoiding flickers. How to choose a right light to fulfill the shooting condition is what UPRtek can do and is good at.
The new release of UPRtek’s handheld spectrometers- Chrome Viewer CV600- can make your shoot more efficient and capture every life moment.

Flicker mode setting:

1.Camera FPS setting:FPS, frames per second. Photographers usually set up FPS by 2 different conditions:
The frame rate for motion picture film cameras was typically 24 frames per second with multiple flashes on each frame during projection to prevent flicker.
For traditional television, it usually use 24 frames per second (PAL format) or 30 frames per second (NTSC format) for shooting and playback.
The field rate of analog television and video systems was typically 50 or 60 fields per second.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_frame_rate

2.TH by KHz setting:
TH means Threshold; KHz refers to the unit of Lighting Threshold. UPRtek’s CV600 can help photographers to measure the main frequency of the light. The settings can be adjusted flexibly according to the lights that gaffers choose for scene.

So, photographers can input the frequency of the light that is going to be used for the scene; just input the max frequency of all lights. CV600 will show PASS/FAIL telling the environment has Flicker or not.
According to the experience of photographers, the higher the light frequency is, the less flickers happen. But the lights having high frequency are usually much more expensive.

3.TH by % setting:
TH means Threshold; % refers to the percentage of main frequency and DC.
The lighting designers told us that the lower the % is, the less flickers happen.
UPRtek downward the setting values for this latest version of CV600, expecting the new settings (1% and 0.5%) can help photographers to avoid Flicker with more stringent standards when filming.

Measurement Mode

Chrome Viewer CV600 Measurement and Result:

Flicker Settings:

Example 1:
Generally speaking, photographer will set up cameras FPS according to shooting condition. When the FPS is different from the main frequency of the light, it is easy to have flicker.
Therefore, if photographer does not have special requirements for FPS, they can adjust the FPS to avoid Flicker by referring the main frequency of the light which is measured by CV600.

FPS v.s. Main Frequency:

Example 2:
Suppose FPS condition cannot be replaced (such as FPS30 as below), the Gaffer wants to use the light that is 10KHz, setup CV600 Lighting TH:10KHz as the measurement value, after measuring A/B 2 lights, CV600 shows light B is PASS which may avoid Flicker than light A.

Example 3:

Above three different kind of TH: KHz and TH:% settings, allowing photographers to check for flicker!
