A Severe Talent Shortage is Down the Road: 83% of Businesses Are Already Affected

The US software job market faces a 472K tech talent shortage. According to research done by Indeed, 9 in 10 business owners are struggling to find and hire IT staff. Moreover, hiring software engineers was defined as the 2nd most common issue employers are facing — 23.84% of respondents meet considerable difficulties while searching for candidates, while 83% admitted that talent shortage affected their businesses.

In Germany, there is a great shortage of IT professionals in almost all regions of the country – says Simon Ricker, Business Development Manager at Daxx, responsible for the German market. The Cologne Institute for Economic Research in Germany reported – among 96 job types that have a labor shortage, the tech sector suffers the most. According to the latest stats, Germany lacks nearly 340,000 specialists in engineering and tech jobs.

The situation in the Netherlands isn’t better either –4 out of 10 business entrepreneurs in the country consider talent shortage as the main barrier that prevents the expansion of the software development sector. There are many tech companies but not enough software engineers. It doesn’t depend on the city, there’s a nationwide shortage (Xuntos).

28 EU countries are likely to suffer a shortage of 500,000 software engineers by 2020, according to nexten.io.
