School Just Got Real

Welcome back to Arcavios, home of the greatest academic institution in the known Multiverse - Strixhaven. The adventurous group of first year students who found themselves lost in Lorwyn Eclipsed have now returned to their school, and are now second years preparing for the start of classes. When the mysterious yet normally gentle Archaics attack, the students of Strixhaven must band together to find a solution. Meanwhile, a new planeswalker has appeared, alongside a familiar face sporting a new colour combination…

New Mechanics

Returning to Strixhaven brings new and flavourful mechanics, capturing the essence of each of the five colleges. These mechanics include:

• Prepare - Creatures with Prepare come with a Signature Spell that you can cast so long as the creature is ‘readied’. Some creatures enter readied, while others have conditions you’ll need to fulfil.
• Thesis - Huge splashy spells that have an effect every turn.
• Repartee (Silverquill) - Cards with abilities that trigger when an instant or sorcery targets a creature.
• Flashback (Lorehold) - A returning mechanic that lets you cast spells for an alternate cost from your graveyard.
• Opus (Prismari) - Spellcraft, but with a bigger bonus if five or more mana was spent to cast a spell.
• Infusion (Witherbloom) - Cards with abilities that trigger if you gain life.
• Increment (Quandrix) - Creatures that get a +1/+1 counter if you spend mana greater than their power or toughness.

Choose your college

Each of Secrets of Strixhaven’s five commander decks utilise a unique two-color play style and flavourful mechanics themed around Silverquill, Prismari, Witherbloom, Lorehold, and Quandrix curriculums. Choose your college of magical study and expand your education.

• SILVERQUILL INFLUENCE - Weaponize your words with Silverquill standout Killian, who encourages the rest of the table to attack targets that aren’t you. Tap, goad, and control creatures and savour the mayhem.
• PRISMARI ARTISTRY - Let your creativity run wild with Rootha as your artist-in-residence and cast expensive, bombastic spells. Bigger spells let you generate bigger Elementals, so pull out all the stops!
• WITHERBLOOM PESTILENCE - There’s trouble brewing when Dina leads your Witherbloom forces, so prepare the Pests for sacrifice! Sacrifices grant life, cards, and stackable counters so you can crush the competition.
• LOREHOLD SPIRIT - Set out on a Lorehold expedition with Quintorius! Create Spirits when cards leave your graveyard, then pile on typal Spirit bonuses and buffs to bury your opponents!
• QUANDRIX UNLIMITED - Formulate the equation for victory with Zimone as your constant variable. Cast X-spells for +1/+1 counters and ever-increasing discounts, supercharging your brainy brawling!

Collecting Secrets of Strixhaven

Secrets of Strixhaven brings a whole library of new cards for you to study, including thematic card treatments and the return of the Mystical Archive. The headliner of the set is Emeritus of Ideation, a X/500 serialised Mythic card in EN language, that can be found only in Collector Boosters, This card highlights the ‘Prepared’ mechanic and is a callback to the iconic card ‘Ancestral Recall’, allowing players to cast the powerful spell once Emeritus of Ideation is readied. The non-serialised versions of this card can be found in regular and extended art treatments available in both Play and Collector Boosters.

The founding dragons return for Secrets of Strixhaven with brand new versions, including borderless versions. The two new Planeswalkers, Ral Zarek and Professor Dellian Fel, are also available in this borderless treatment.

There’s plenty to learn about Arcavios for students of Strixhaven, and twelve creatures receive borderless Field Notes versions. Complete with thematic sketches and notes from different colleges, this treatment examines creatures in academic detail.

The Mystical Archive returns, taken from Strixhaven’s impossibly large library. A Mystical Archive spell will be in every booster pack for the set, featuring brand new art for some of the game’s most played and iconic spells. Also returning is the Japanese Mystical Archive, with authentic Japanese alternate art of the same Mystical Archive card list. These can be found exclusively in Collector Boosters in both Non-Foil and the new Silver Scroll foil variation.

Class is in session! The set will also include Special Guest cards, bringing reprints with brand new art depicting magic history lessons being taught in the classroom. These can be found in Play Boosters in Non-Foil, and Collector Boosters in Foil.

What’s Strixhaven without a little mystery? Five dual lands, one for the colours of each college, can be found in the Borderless Portal View treatment, showing a window between Arcavios and an alternate universe that feels quite familiar…
