MCM Birmingham Comic Con: Doctor Who stars Davison, McGann, Baker & McCoy talk Rose, costumes & more

The excitement kept building at Birmingham’s NEC today as Day Two of MCM Birmingham Comic Con brought in thousands more eager pop culture fans for the biggest ever edition of the Birmingham show. For official photography from Day Two of the event, please click HERE.

Peter Davison, Paul McGann, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy took to the Live Stage for a special Doctor Who reunion, where they were asked about their time working on the hit show.

Colin Baker, who played the Sixth Doctor, paid tribute to the second Doctor Patrick Troughton when asked about his personal favourite story from his time on the show. “I like The Two Doctors because I like to do a story with Patrick Troughton. I think we all agree he was the Doctor who made it all possible for us. To make that first regeneration so different, so funny. To do a story with him was fantastic.”

Asked which companions they’d have liked to work with which they didn’t get the chance to, Peter Davison (the Fifth Doctor) said: “I would probably pick Rose. The first companion who was really… the story of Doctor Who was told through her eyes really.”

Paul McGann (the Eighth Doctor) agreed, saying: “It’s Billie Piper, if you talk to most or all of the actors, they all [say] the same thing: Billie Piper is the best actor of all of us.” Sylvester McCoy (the Seventh Doctor) then noted “she is the Doctor now”, to which McGann replied “Apparently so!”.

On their favourite costumes that weren’t their own, McCoy said: “Colin Baker’s. I wore it once. I was the only actor to play two Doctors until some tall lanky Scotsman came along.” McGann later added: “I liked Capaldi’s. Me and Capaldi are roughly the same age, and its got that slight sort of mod, ‘69/’70 skinhead vibe. He’s got the Crombie on, he’s got the Doc Martens on and the red flags either side. That was nice.”

The panel concluded with Paul McGann being asked whether a photo of him and Billie Piper seemingly on set together was real or AI. “It’s a real AI picture,” he said, giving nothing away.
