Sumo Group Makes UK’s 100 Best Large Companies to Work For List

Friday 21 May 2021: Sumo Group, the award-winning provider of creative and development services to the video games and entertainment industries, has been named on the Best Companies UK’s 100 Best Large Companies To Work For list.

Sumo Digital studios Sumo Nottingham, Sumo Newcastle, Atomhawk Newcastle, The Chinese Room, Sumo Sheffield and Red Kite Games have also been recognised on regional Best Companies lists for the Midlands, North East, South East, and Yorkshire and The Humber.

The announcement follows Sumo Group being awarded the 3-star Best Companies rating; the highest rating available from the workplace engagement specialists.

“This is the first time Sumo Group has made the Top 100 list and I could not be prouder. Earning a place on this list recognises our commitment to our people and demonstrates that we see workplace engagement as a vital part of our success,” said Sumo Group CEO Carl Cavers.

“Sumo’s success is the success of everyone who works at our studios, and everyone who ever has.  It has been Sumo’s vision from the beginning to prioritise its people and support them to further their careers and live healthier lives both in and out of the company.”

Sumo Group has long encouraged and facilitated a healthy work/life balance and fostered unique team cultures in all areas of the business. Sumo Group also provides its people with the resources and tools to further their careers within the company.

The company is also committed to charity work, supporting multiple good causes including The Children’s Hospital Charity, Special Effect and Games Aid.  Earlier in May, Sumo announced a partnership with mental health charity Safe In Our World to further the company’s commitment to better supporting the wellbeing of our people.

So far in 2021 Sumo has completed the acquisition of Polish game development studio PixelAnt Games and announced new publishing venture Secret Mode, focusing on bringing fresh, smaller games, developed either internally or by independent developers, to market.

In April, Sumo Digital Sheffield won two BAFTA Video Game Awards for PlayStation 5 launch title Sackboy: A Big Adventure, developed in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sackboy won Best British Game and Best Family Game, the first BAFTA wins in Sumo’s history.
