Press release -

Costa create World's first three tiered Raspberry & Almond Bake Wedding Cake!

Costa coffee lovers Sarah and Ian had a bespoke Costa wedding cake present at their wedding reception on Saturday 28th June 2014. Having enjoyed one of their first dates in Costa, the UK’s favourite coffee shop, Ian Coldrake and Sarah Jones from Milton Keynes commissioned a bespoke Raspberry and Almond Bake wedding cake – the world’s first ever three-tiered Costa wedding cake!

Costa has continued to be the couple’s favourite coffee shop to visit throughout their five year relationship; Sarah and Ian visit their local Costa store in Milton Keynes on a weekly basis, and without doubt always enjoy a slice of Costa’s famous Raspberry & Almond Bake.

Costa has gone to a considerable amount of effort to accommodate a bespoke Raspberry & Almond Bake wedding cake for the couple. Over the last year, Costa has worked with the couple to make sure the cake not only looks impressive but is also in-keeping with the theme and colour-scheme of the wedding. Bespoke cake decorations have been specially created in the couple’s colour theme and Costa’s famous Raspberry & Almond Bake has been specially tailored to form a three-tiered wedding cake.

Q & A with Sarah Jones (Our lucky bride)

1.  When and how did you meet?

Ian and I met in November 2009. We both worked in the same office at the time, and I had noticed Ian around the building, although he apparently never noticed me! A few weeks later we were both out with friends at a local bar and we quickly started chatting. After several cocktails and lots of dancing, we exchanged numbers and arranged a first date for a few days later.

2.  When did Ian propose?

Ian proposed in February 2013 whilst we were on holiday in Thailand. Towards

the end of the holiday, he surprised me with a private boat trip to a secluded

island, where he got down on one knee!

3.  How long have you been planning your wedding?

16 months - we’ve been planning the wedding since our engagement.

4.  Do you have a theme for your wedding? If so, how was this decided?

The theme of our wedding is 'Firsts and Favourites'. We wanted to indulge all of our guests in our favourite things and for them to recall our first dates and holidays, which is where our bespoke Costa wedding cake plays a huge part!

5.  Why did you choose to have a Costa wedding cake?

Some of our very first dates were spent at Costa in Milton Keynes; it was and still is our favourite coffee shop to visit. We quickly found a mutual love for Costa’s Raspberry & Almond Bake and it quickly became a tradition of ours to visit Costa every weekend and treat ourselves to a Raspberry & Almond bake. One weekend during a conversation in Costa, we agreed that if we could have any wedding cake in the world it would have to Costa’s Raspberry & Almond Bake!

6.  Who’s idea was it to have a Costa wedding cake?

I said to Ian, perhaps if we got in touch with Costa they may be able to help us make a ‘giant’ version of the Raspberry & Almond Bake! We never dreamt that Costa would go to all the effort they have done to design us a bespoke Costa wedding cake. We are so thankful to Costa and so excited to be able to say we had a bespoke Raspberry & Almond Bake wedding cake!

7.  What was your family/guests’ reaction when you told them you were having a bespoke Costa wedding cake?

We initially wanted to keep it a surprise but we were so excited we had to tell everyone in the end! People couldn't believe it - my mum in particular is super excited!

8.  What do you typically order from Costa?

Our weekly order is a large Latte for Ian, a large Hot Chocolate for myself and two Raspberry & Almond Bakes of course!

9.  How often do you visit Costa?

We visit one of our local Costa stores every weekend. We were so excited when Costa recently opened at the end of our road in Woburn Sands!

10.  Tell me about your actual wedding

We’re exchanging our vows at St Mary’s Church in Haddenham. Once we’re married, we’ll make our way to Notley Abbey in Thame to celebrate with our family and friends.

11.  How many guests do you have attending your wedding?

We have almost 90 guests with us in the day, and another 20 or so in the evening.

12.  Do you have any bridesmaids or best men/ushers?

Yes, my best friend Angie is my only bridesmaid - I wanted to keep it simple! We have three ushers who are all our brothers, and Ian's best man is Kacey - they've been best friends since the age of three!

13.  Are you planning on having a honeymoon?

Yes, we're touring Italy for our honeymoon. One of our first trips away together when we were dating was a weekend away in Rome and we loved it. So for our honeymoon we decided to stay into Venice for 2 nights, and then travel down to the Amalfi coast for five nights, and then onto Sardinia for a week! We can't wait!
